On our way from Queenstown to Christchurch, we decided to stop in our beloved little Fairlie and stay the night. It felt like coming home. We stayed in one of the self contained units on the holiday park where we had worked before. It was so nice to stay in a clean place again with a nice bed and shower! The afternoon was warm and sunny so after dropping of our luggage we decided to go for lunch at the Fairlie Bakehouse.
Lunch at the Fairlie Bakehouse
Someone had once recommended me the salmon and bacon pie from the Fairlie Bakehouse. That sounded interesting and I had not had the chance to try it yet so I ordered one. Well, I have to say, this was the first time since we were in New Zealand that I was really and truly impressed with the food! Inside the beautiful flaky puff pastry were big chunks of delicious pink salmon, fresh leek, little bacon bits and creamy goodness. What a combination, it was perfect!
So if you ever pass by Fairlie on your travels around New Zealand, do yourself a favour and stop at the Fairlie Bakehouse for a salmon and bacon pie. It will be worth your while!
PS: The mince pie is delicious too and so are all the other things we tried at the Fairlie Bakehouse.
