While travelling in New Zealand we have been amazed by its beautiful landscapes and nature. But we have also learned and noticed some other things about this country. Some things you come across, only in New Zealand.
Only in New Zealand…
The customs at the airport were the most difficult ones we have ever experienced. We even had to take our “tint” out of our backpack to be examined.
New Zealand seems 10 years behind when it comes to technology. The often incredibly slow wifi is very pricy and if you want to call to Europe you are still best of with a phone card. You really notice how small this country is and how far away it is from everything.
Apparently New Zealand is second only to the USA for the number of McDonalds restaurants per head of population! And not only McDonalds. We have seen so many fast food options and they are much much cheaper than buying healthy food.
Apart from buying healthy food, buying alcohol was also a bit of a mission. We had to show our passports every time we bought a bottle of wine at the supermarket. And in lots of places like hostels you are not even allowed to drink at all.
And yes, the accent is also quite something. Kiwi’s are brilliant at mixing up their vowels. “Fush and Chups” is “Fish and Chips, “Tint” is “Tent”, “Prungles” are “Pringles”. A bit confusing in the beginning but I actually love the sound of a kiwi accent.
